A Seed of Inspiration

The Martins’ have been a farming family since 1820. But it was at the suggestion of a Yugoslavian exchange student, Branko Premelc with a background in horticulture that Leighton Martin was encouraged to plant his first apple trees. They had a notion that the sunshine, rainfall, cold nights, and good soil along the shores of Lake Erie would produce the sweet, tart, juicy apples that Martin’s Family Fruit Farm has become known for. The Art of Growing a Martin's Apple.

The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree

Martin’s Family Fruit Farm has come along way since Leighton planted his first acre and sold his first 4-1/2 bushels at the Waterloo Farmers Market. Today Leighton, his sons, several grandchildren, along with our expert management teams oversee the production and marketing of our famous Ontario apples. Special thanks to our many dedicated long-time employees who been with us from the beginning.

Staying True To Our Roots

From 100 trees in 1971 to over 700 acres today, Martin's has grown to become leading Growers and Packers in Canada.  But we also owe so much of our success to our loyal partners, hard-working employees, and many of the customers who supported us in the early days -- who we continue to supply today.
